Sounds like a battery issue.

My 54″ 48v ZT540 works fine for a year. Now fine. NOW the mower motors shut down after 5 minute of cutting. Please advise

I don’t love the lead acid batteries it come with! They don’t tell you not to run the batteries below 50% to prevent damage. I have had mine for 2.5 years. I just upgraded to 60Ah lithium batteries by Epoch, they have a kit just for Ryobi mowers, that should tell you something. After $1900 the mower is 100 pounds lighter and mows like new. My advice, if they don’t say lithium batteries don’t buy it. Lesson learned, not that I’ll need another one in my lifetime.

Thanks for this site to vent a bit about my Ryobi ZT480ex. This machine was purchased inJune 20219. I have never been able to run this unit more that 20 minutes before its at 50%. I’ve pulled all the batteries and replaced them with the Leoch 115Ah and before putting them into the machine I put each battery on my CTech
smart charger on its AGM mode for 20 hours till it registered full charge and was on float. I did this twice, then let them sit for 4 hours to check voltage decay. All 4 batteries read above 13 volts and held. I then put them into the Ryobi and again I was only able to run it 20 minutes and it hit 50%.
I’m totally frustrated with this Ryobi experience.
The closest Ryobi certified repair shop is 60 miles away. I am now skeptical of manufacturers stated performance, especially when the power comes from multiple batteries whether they are AGM or L ion.
The Mean Green mower as the only one to my knowledge that uses a single L ion battery pack to run their unit, but at around $25K, come on. Not for residential mowing at that price!

Have used our brand new 48V 54″ Ryobi twice. Totally pleased so far. $5,000. I will be using 50% discharge as the max depletion we will plan especially during first 30 or so cycles. Expect the typical rules about pampering lead acid batteries to apply if you want the longest battery life. I got about 45-50 minutes using low drive and low blade speed before reaching 50% level and putting it on recharge for the night. Cuts beautifully. I have to improve my pattern efficiency if I am to get lawn cut in 45 minutes.

Charger wouldn’t charge batteries and had zero power to turn it on, very few service centers in the area to fix it, and had to pay a lot of money to transport it to/from their location…and it’s still in the shop after a couple of weeks, with no fix in sight. I would steer clear of these, if you need something reliable, either buy a battery powered unit from a retailer that services them locally or stick to gas, these are definitely not ready for prime-time.

It has been seven months since the only certified repair shop within 100 miles ordered the ignition part that went out after four months worth of periodic use.
