ECHO LM-2119SP Self-Propelled Gas Lawn Mower

4.5/5
Manufacturer: Echo
Model number: LM-2119SP
Price: 579.99
Power source: Gas
Motor size: 190cc
Echo has released their new 21” Gas-powered/self-propelled lawn mower for the spring of 2025 and sent us a sample to review. This Echo lawn mower retails for $579.99. At first look, the black, gray, and orange lawn mower is attractive and boasts several useful features. The most appealing feature to me is the “Mow N’ Stow” feature. Having a Gas-powered mower that can be folded vertically to save space is a desirable quality. In this review, we will highlight some of the features to help you get a better look at the ECHO LM-2119SP.

ECHO LM-2119SP Self-Propelled Gas Powered Lawn Mower Review

Specifications

  • Gas Engine: 190cc Briggs and Stratton
  • Self Propelled
  • Deck Size: 21” Steel cutting deck
  • Cutting height: Adjustable from 1.25 to 4.0 in.
  • Warranty: 5-year consumer / 90-day commercial

The ECHO LM-2119SP is a foldable “Mown N Stow”

Having a gas-powered mower that can be folded is a very beneficial space-saving feature for many people. The easy-to-use orange locking handles allow the mower to fold up quickly for space-saving storage purposes.

The mower can be hung by the built-in deck handle or can neatly sit while folded. The handle arms allow the mower to stand up vertically while folded and create a stable platform, preventing the mower from tipping over.

21” Steel cutting deck

The ECHO LM-2119SP has a 21” steel-cutting deck. In addition, the deck has a built-in quick connector that allows you to attach a garden hose for cleaning the grass clippings and build-up from the underside of the deck.

Under the deck, there is a plastic shield that protects the bearings and spindles from water and dirt contamination. For myself, I am not a big fan of spraying water into an area with bearings that could potentially rust. I would rather prop the deck up in “storage mode” and scrape it by hand. However, this is a personal preference.

The Deck Cutting Height is easily adjustable from 1.25” to 4.0” by the easy-adjustment handle. When adjusting the front and rear, they will adjust simultaneously, rather than having to adjust each separately. Adjusting both wheels at the same time saves the user the hassle of having to adjust multiple levers.

190cc Briggs and Stratton Engine

The ECHO LM-2119SP comes with a 190cc Briggs and Stratton Engine. Briggs and Stratton engines have been included on lawnmowers for decades and are a common name in the industry. This Briggs and Stratton engine also has a “ready-start” feature to enable quicker starting in any climate. Quicker starts are always favorable.

In addition, standing a gas mower straight up is usually frowned upon because the gas can leak out of the gas tank. Furthermore, engine oil can drip into places that it should not within the motor. On this Echo lawn mower, the gas cap is positioned so that the gas will not leak out while standing upright, but you have to be sure not to have it filled past the fill line (about ¾ of the tank). I did some research on the Briggs and Stratton web page. This engine was designed to be “Mow N Stowed”. What does this mean? Briggs and Stratton do not go into detail about what they did to this motor to allow it to be stored in an upright position, however, it was engineered to be stored in this manner and isn’t something to worry about.

3 in 1 Discharge capabilities

The ECHO LM-2119SP is a 3-in-1 discharge-capable mower. This means that you can mow with the included rear bagger, remove the bagger, and use the already attached mulching attachment, or easily clip on and install the side discharge chute. This is a user preference and will be determined based on the operator’s needs. Another benefit is that the rear bagger comes off and goes back on rather easily by the orange handle. Easy attachment is important when frequently removing the bag during mowing.

ECHO LM-2119SP Self-Propelled Gas Powered Lawn Mower Review

Other features worth mentioning

The ECHO LM-2119SP has 11” rear and 8″ front wheels. Larger wheels can improve maneuverability and increase comfort over a bumpy lawn. Echo also includes a dual cutting blade that will give a cleaner cut with more finely chopped grass. This will assist in more grass fitting into the bagger. The mower has a rubber drag strip, which doubles as a striping tool by helping to push the grass downward and as a safety mechanism to prevent debris from flying toward the operator.

Testing

Here at ToolBoxBuzz, we wanted to share the features of this mower. We weren’t able to put this mower through the normal rigorous testing that we usually do because spring is still on the horizon. Although the grass isn’t growing yet where I am located, I was able to mow some tall, dormant grass and weed areas around the yard to get some testing in. Holding the handle automatically accelerates the mower in motion with the downforce of the spring-loaded handle. I found this handle to be comfortable to hold.

The 190cc Briggs and Stratton Engine was strong and did an excellent job mowing and self-propelling.  The motor ran strong and did not bog down even when I lowered the mowing deck to a lower setting. The ECHO LM-2119SP did a good job mowing whatever I was able to throw at it, and it was comfortable to use.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the newly released ECHO LM-2119SP Gas-Powered self-propelled lawn mower comes with a proven 190cc Briggs and Stratton Engine, which is designed to be folded into a vertical position for easy storage. Not only is the mower attractive and powerful, but has several useful features that make this mower a solid choice when selecting a gas-powered lawn mower.

ECHO LM-2119SP Self-Propelled Gas Lawn Mower
579.99

The ECHO LM-2119SP retails for 579.99. This cost is on par with many mowers of similar comparison; however, this Echo mower is backed by a 5-year user warranty and the Echo brand name.

Hud-Son Log Splitter Preview

This article is a preview of some of the professional-grade log splitters offered by Hud-Son Forest Equipment. Hud-Son is a family-owned business based out of Barneveld, New York, and has been manufacturing equipment for the forestry industry since 1946. The company was started by Daniel J. Hudon, who was a logger in the foothills of the Adirondack mountains.

Hud-Son Log Splitter Preview

Today, Hud-Son manufactures a large variety of sawmills, firewood processors, log splitters, and other equipment to serve demanding pros and homeowners alike. Their products are rugged and proudly manufactured here in the United States. I had the opportunity to learn more about Hud-Son from my friend Marc Deslauries of Halcyon Hill Wood Products located in Oxford, Connecticut. Furthermore, Marc is a dealer for Hud-Son and had equipment available at his property to demo.

Hud-Son Log Splitters

Hud-Son Pro Grade Log Splitters

While Hud-Son is best known for sawmills, I was excited to learn more about the capabilities of some of their professional-grade log splitters. Firewood for home heating is a large industry in the Northeastern United States as well as other parts of the country. Like many homeowners, I process firewood to reduce my heating costs. However, I only have experience with traditional box-beam construction splitters. Box-beam machines are the types of splitters commonly found at home centers and outdoor power equipment shops.

Luckily, we were able to demo two of Hud-Son’s top-of-the-line professional grade log splitters. The Model HDH-5 and Model HDH-6. The HDH in both names stands for “Heavy Duty Hud-Son”.

Hud-Son HDH-5

Specifications

  • Hydraulic Pump Size: 22 GPM
  • Cycle Time: 8 Seconds
  • Max Log Diameter: 20″
  • Fuel Tank Size: 15 Gallon
  • Wedge: 2 & 4 Way Manual Adjustable (6 Way Available)
  • Cylinder Size: 24″ x 4″
  • Engine: 14 HP Electric Start Briggs & Stratton
  • Log Lift: Hydraulic (Standard Feature)

The HDH-5 features a welded square tubing frame and a V-Trough style splitting area. The body of the trough is built from 1/4″ bent sheet steel. The trough centers the log naturally as it moves forward with the push-block. In addition to this, the HDH-5 features a manually adjustable log lift with options for 4 and 6-way wedges. A hydraulic log lift is a standard feature of this model. The HDH-5 is the core of the Badger Firewood Processor design.

Hud-Son Badger Firewood Processor

The Badger is one of Hud-Son’s best-selling firewood processors. The splitter portion of the machine is a Hud-Son HDH-5 splitter.

Hud-Son HDH-6

Hud-Son HDH-6 Log Splitter

Specifications

  • Hydraulic Pump Size: 22 GPM
  • Cycle Time: 12 Seconds
  • Capacity: Open Design for Large Blocks
  • Fuel Tank Size: 15 Gallon
  • Wedge: 2 & 4 Way Hydraulic Adjustable (6 Way Available)
  • Cylinder Size: 24″ x 5″
  • Engine: 23 HP Electric Start Briggs & Stratton
  • Log Lift: Hydraulic (Standard Feature)

The HDH-6 is Hud-Son’s largest machine and is outfitted with a 5″ hydraulic cylinder for increased tonnage output. Additionally, the open station design allows for a much larger round of wood to be split. A larger feed table is included for sorting pieces and re-splits. Unlike its little brother, the HDH-6 is built from 3/8″ thick sheet steel. This machine is large and in charge!

The HDH-6 features a fully hydraulic adjustable 6-way wedge. This allows the wedge to be centered on the firewood round for more uniform splits. The 6-way wedge pictured here allows one round of wood to be cut into six pieces in one pass. Also, get a load of the size of that red push-block!

Hud-Son Quality

Hud-Son by and large is a proud American manufacturing company. With that pride in manufacturing comes quality components. The hydraulic system components, frame and body construction, and all other aspects are selected with durability and user serviceability in mind. Conversely, consumer-built log splitters will not stand up to heavy use as well as machines like the HDH-5 and HDH-6. On the contrary, an overbuilt machine like the Hud-Sons mentioned here will withstand daily use and high production work. Moreover, they can be rebuilt and serviced over time to provide generations of service.

Hud-Son Log Splitters Overall Impression

Ultimately this product preview is an overview of two of the professional-grade wood splitter options from Hud-Son Forest Equipment. In the future, Tool Box Buzz will perform an in-depth review of these machines. As well as feature some of the other forestry products that Hud-Son is known for. Overall I was thoroughly impressed with both machines. The HDH-5 represents a feature-rich machine for demanding homeowners or small firewood producers. Whereas the HDH-6 is best suited for full-time commercial production of firewood.

I discussed the quality of both machines throughout the article. With that in mind, quality, capability, and durability do come at a price. An HDH-5 splitter as of March 2024 retails for approximately $11,295.00. While an HDH-6 retails for $19,995.00. Ultimately this is a large sum of money, but is comparable with similarly capable machines from other manufacturers. However, Hud-Son offers other machines for lower price points. If you are interested in a Hud-Son based on the quality discussed here, the Model HDH-4 and Model HW3:16 offer the same quality in smaller and more affordable designs. In contrast, the HW3:16 is a box-beam design that is more comparable to most residential or homeowner machines.

All things considered, Hud-Son offers outstanding options for wood splitters and other forestry products. As a result, if you are interested in purchasing a Hud-Son product visit the Find a Dealer section on their website. Furthermore, if you are in Connecticut or Northeastern United States my friend Marc would be happy to help you find the right Hud-Son for you.

Bosch 18V PROFACTOR 12” Dual-Bevel Slide Miter Saw

Bosch 18V PROFACTOR 12” Dual-Bevel Slide Miter Saw

4.5/5
Manufacturer: Bosch
Model number: GCM18V-12SDN14
Price: $699.00
Power source: 18V Cordless
Weight: 52.4 lbs.
The Bosch PROFACTOR 12” Dual-Bevel Slide Miter Saw (kit number GCM18V-12SDN14) has been an exciting addition to my tool lineup.  Generally speaking, I welcome any new cordless power tool to my arsenal, especially if it’s replacing a broken, tired, or aged-out corded tool.  Like many of my contracting comrades, I consider the miter saw to be a key player in any remodeling job.  From cutting blocking and bracing at the framing stage, PVC piping during plumbing rough-ins, and of course flooring and trim lumber towards the latter stages of a project.  For this reason, choosing, owning, operating, and maintaining a miter saw is important.

The narrative for cordless tools has been written time and time again.  The fewer corded tools on site the better.  Fewer cords, fewer tripped breakers.  There are probably dozens of articles and videos out there showing and proving that a cordless miter saw is just as worthy as its corded version.

But why a 12” miter saw?  And why a slider?  Simple answer: More cut capacity.  From 4×6 PT to larger trim stock such as 5/4×12, and even medium-sized pieces of plywood, my general sentiment is that it’s better to have the capacity and not need it, than to need it and not have it.  I’ve always been a firm believer in this.  Sure, some guys have more than one miter saw.  Maybe a 7 ¼ or 8-1/2″ unit for smaller jobs, and/or a 12” “chop” miter saw for bigger or more accurate cutting.  But if I can only have one miter saw, I choose a 12” slider.

Slide vs. Glide

How and why did I choose the Bosch PROFACTOR 12” Slide Miter Saw?  When the original Bosch-Axial Glide miter saw was released, it caught lots of attention and turned lots of heads.  I even had the opportunity to showcase the Bosch 18V Axial-Glide miter saw at JLC Live in Providence in 2021, but never had to opportunity to dig deep.  I had heard murmurings of the Axial-Glide version be less accurate and more difficult to adjust than the traditional slider.  As such, I knew I wanted a slide unit rather than a glide.

Out Of The Box

The Bosch PROFACTOR 12” Slide Miter Saw required minimal assembly and I had the saw up and running in minutes.  With all controls zeroed out and in neutral positions, I checked the critical relationships of “squareness” that would concern me.  They are as follows:

The relationship of the blade to the table.

Table to the stationary fence.

Stationary fence to the blade.

The Bosch PROFACTOR 12” Slide Miter Saw needed very few adjustments out of the box.  Upon running the saw just to get familiar with it, I made a test cut on a piece of 1×6 kiln-dried pine shiplap.  Over the width of the board (5 ½”), the cut was off less than a 1/32”.  Not too shabby!  I measured this using a standard, steel speed square.  In order to then check where and why the cut was off, I used a square and a smaller aluminum trim square.

Some folks might argue or ask that a miter saw and its cuts should be checked with an engineer’s square.  I would counter that by saying that the vast majority of contractors, carpenters, and remodelers are not using those squares.  “Use what you have” and trust it.  In fact, the user manual from Bosch instructs the operator to use a combination square to check the saw and even has a quick guide on how to check your combination square to make sure IT is square.

Operations Manual

The Bosch PROFACTOR miter saw was sent with an extremely thorough and clear operating manual.   Nearly everything you could imagine regarding the use, transport, adjustment, and maintenance of the saw is clearly spelled out in the 55-page manual, including a guide for cutting crown molding.

Making the necessary adjustments to address the miter accuracy couldn’t be any easier.  The adjustments are literally spelled out right on the detent plate.  Nice touch, Bosch.  The plate loosened with 4 screws using the onboard wrench, and a quick bump of the table brought it to 0 degrees.

On The Job

The first job I used the Bosch PROFACTOR 12” Slide Miter Saw was a porch build with several different types of materials.  On that job, we cut and mitered cellular PVC trim boards, 5/4 x 6” mahogany decking, as well as made “regular” crosscuts in pressure-treated and kiln-dried 2x, and also composite decking.  We even cut 1” aluminum “angle iron” with a non-ferrous blade.  All miters turned out nice and tight when fastened, but more importantly – those miters were square!

Factory Blade

I didn’t care too much for the cut quality with the OEM Bosch blade, so I switched to a 40-tooth Spyder blade- something I hadn’t used before.  The cut quality and subsequent tear-out were improved.

The saw was easy to walk around with and set up and proved to be very stable on a plywood workstation.  There are plenty of holes in the base plate if you choose to screw the saw to your workstation, and there’s even a recessed “cutout” where you could cinch the saw down with a clamp.

Controls

All of the controls and adjustments are in intuitive, familiar locations, especially if you are accustomed to Bosch miter saws.  I’ve heard a few folks complain that you need to reach behind the saw to adjust the bevel.  This doesn’t bother me, because my go-to DeWalt miter saw for the last 18 years had the bevel adjustment in the same position.  For me, this has become natural and doesn’t feel inconvenient.

Rather than using a laser, the Bosch PROFACTOR miter saw uses a shadow line to create a kerf indicator.  This shadow is mostly accurate and is visible when working both indoors and out.  The light for the shadow line can be illuminated by depressing the trigger lock.  This is nice because you don’t have to actually spin the blade to activate the light.  After illumination, the shadow-line LED stays on for 20 seconds. This is generally ample time to alight the shadow with the intended cut/kerf location.

Battery Life and Performance

The Bosch PROFACTOR 12” Slide Miter Saw was sent with a CORE18V 8Ah High Power Battery.  Fundamentally, the CORE18V 8Ah battery has served my needs well.  When it comes to cordless tools, I believe that some folks get too hung up on battery life.   In my opinion, the convenience of cordless and the great features of a tool always trump run time.  On a jobsite, I make sure that I either always have a fresh battery on standby, or throw the battery I am using on the charger during lunch or a longer break such as running to the lumber yard.  For these reasons, I didn’t want my review to get bogged down on the number of cuts I could make with a full battery.  I feel as though that type of testing can sometimes be too subjective, especially because end-users of tools often use them in different ways.

A couple of times I ran out of battery life prior to finishing a set of cutting tasks, I was able to use a Bosch CORE18V 6.3Ah battery on the PROFACTOR miter saw and noticed zero lack of performance.  In a pinch, I even had to use a 4Ah battery.  While I wouldn’t want to get in the habit of this, it did work and got me through the job until my 8Ah pack was charged and ready to use.

Adjustments and Controls

Every single adjustment or control knob on the Bosch PROFACTOR 12” Slide Miter Saw is color-coded in red.  This continuity across the entirety of the saw makes it super easy to identify what you actually need to put your hands on to make adjustments.  Need to make an adjustment?  Look for red.  Need to bevel the saw?  Look for red.  Need to make a miter?  Look for red.  I find this to be very helpful when navigating the usage of the saw.  My only gripe with these control knobs is that they are plastic, and I’m fearful that may degrade or break over time.  So far, and especially in warm weather, the plastic has held up well and hasn’t been an issue.

Improvements Needed

I hate to make such a bold statement, but the dust collection on the Bosch PROFACTOR 12” Slide Miter Saw is poor.  Even with a corded Hilti dust extractor hooked up, I struggled to keep sawdust at bay.  The built-in dust port just behind the blade seems to be a bit short.  I’m thinking there has to be a reason that it doesn’t sit lower, perhaps for reasons of interference on the back fence.  From pine to cedar, to mahogany, the saw and vacuum combo just didn’t do a good job.  Dust collection is not only a concern for some of our clients, but it makes intermittent cleanup more necessary.

An on-board battery-life indicator would be a welcome feature, but not a deal-breaker when considering whether or not to purchase this saw.  No battery-life indicator on this saw is what I would put into the category of “first-world problems.”

Summary

Other than lackluster dust collection, the Bosch PROFACTOR 12” Dual-Bevel Slide Miter Saw checks all the boxes.  Accurate cutting, easy-to-use controls, tons of power, and cordless freedom make this miter saw a new favorite tool of mine.

There seemed to be a period of time when Bosch was gearing its tools more toward commercial users with its grinders, rotary hammers, impact drivers, and corded tools.  Their marketing and social media videos appeared to focus on commercial construction sites.  But more recently, and especially with the addition of more carpentry tools to the PROFACTOR cordless lineup, Bosch is proving that it’s back for the residential carpenter.  Well done.

Makita 40V Max XGT 18″ Chainsaw Review

40V Max XGT 18" Chainsaw

4/5
Manufacturer: Makita
Model number: GCU04Z
Price: $459.00
Power source: 40V Max XGT Battery
Weight: 14.6 Lbs.
The Makita 40V Max XGT line has established itself as a premium cordless platform offering exceptional power and runtime. That XGT technology is now available in the Makita chainsaw lineup as well. This review will examine the new Makita Model GCU04Z 18″ 40V Max XGT chainsaw.

In September 2020, ToolBoxBuzz published our first Best Cordless Chainsaw Head-2-Head. Makita’s 36V (18V X2) saw was a crew favorite and a top performer during our testing. The XGT saw builds upon that legacy as a high-performance tool for demanding homeowners and professionals alike.

Makita GCU04Z Specs

  • Chain Pitch: 3/8″ Low-Profile (LP)
  • Bar Gauge: 0.050″
  • Chain Speed: 5,020 FPM
  • Bare Tool Weight: 11.7 Lbs.
  • Weight W/ 5.0 Ah Battery: 14.6 Lbs.
  • Oiler Type: Adjustable
  • OEM Bar Type: Fixed Sprocket Nose

Professional Grade Features

Makita’s battery chainsaws have always catered to professional users and the GCU04Z continues this tradition with well-thought-out and replaceable safety features. One of the main differences between a professional and consumer-grade chainsaw is the use of replaceable and user-serviceable components. Sometimes things get broken when working in the field. The ability to easily replace key parts is an absolute plus for demanding users.

The Makita XGT saw features a replaceable aluminum chain catch as well as an easy-to-remove forward handlebar. The sprocket assembly is also easy to access. The felling spikes are single-sided, but made of steel and easy to remove and replace. Although no dual spikes are available from Makita, the aftermarket may take care of this for us.

One of my favorite features of the XGT chainsaw is the two stout bar mount studs and mechanical chain tensioner. The two studs provide a rock-solid mounting platform for the bar. The steel conical chain tensioner is also an improvement from previous Makita saws like the XCU08Z.

Power and Performance

The XGT chainsaw offers powerful performance for a variety of cutting tasks. I criticized its 36v predecessor for bouncing and skipping while cutting due to a high chain speed and less low-end torque. The 40V XGT chainsaw resolves those issues with a superior torque band that bites into wood. The XGT feels like it has far more “grunt”.

The new Makita 40v XGT battery platform is likely the cause for this substantial increase in cutting performance. The XGT batteries offer more available power that is produced more efficiently. The uninterrupted power means that the XGT saw is fully capable of felling smaller trees. That is a task that I ordinarily would prefer not to do with a battery saw because of the safety risks of not having enough power during the cut. I dropped some approximately 10-12 inch diameter trees without issue using the XGT.

The 5.0 Ah XGT battery that is included with the saw provides enough runtime to limb and buck a smaller-diameter tree. The 5.0 Ah will provide excellent run-time for making horizontal cross-cuts for firewood rounds. However, the large battery port is sized to accommodate an 8.0 Ah battery and in my opinion, should be included with this saw. The larger battery pack would increase the run-time and performance capabilities of an already impressive saw.

Overall Impressions

Makita has always impressed me with their saws. Whether it’s a circular, reciprocating, or in this case chainsaw, you can expect a smooth and powerful tool when using a Makita product. The new 40v Max XGT chainsaw upholds this lineage. The GCU04 is powerful and robustly constructed. The XGT batteries offer outstanding power and performance, although an 8.0 Ah would be the best pairing for this saw. A larger heavier battery would be a concern for a top-handle style saw, but not with a traditional rear handle.

Additionally, I would like to see the auto-shutoff feature timed differently. Currently, if the user releases the tang safety on the handle with the chain -brake off, the saw will shut off within five seconds. It will stay on as long as the tang safety is depressed. While this is obviously designed to protect the user, a longer window before the shut-off would make the saw more user-friendly.

The Makita 40V XGT chainsaw is currently available as a bare tool for $459.00. This is a good value for anyone currently on the XGT platform because it is priced lower than other professional arborist brands while still providing comparable power and performance. The kitted option currently retails for $639.00 and is an excellent option for anyone interested in getting on the XGT platform. Follow the Buy Now link below to purchase either the bare tool or the kit from our friends at ACME Tool.

Metabo HPT is updating and improving venerable tools from the old Hitachi line. The Metabo HPT 36V MultiVolt cordless 10″ table saw is a great example of this. This tool review takes a look at the Metabo HPT Model #C3610DRJQ4 MultiVolt Table Saw. Metabo HPT improved upon the Hitachi 10″ Job Site Table Saw by adding advanced electronics, features, and cordless convenience. The MHPT saw is a modern solution for today’s job sites and contractors.

I meet many contractors that are still completely against large high-demand cordless tools. Whether it is a table saw, a miter saw a router, or any other high-demand tool. They lack confidence in the battery-powered system’s ability to keep up. Metabo HPT’s MultiVolt system takes those concerns completely out of the equation. Powerful 36V batteries coupled with a plug-in AC Adapter give the best of both worlds. Moreover, MHPT gives users a large, stable, and easy-to-use tool in addition to multiple power sources.

Standout Features of the Metabo HPT MultiVolt Table Saw

Onboard Tool Storage

Metabo HPT includes an anti-kickback assembly with pawls, a miter gauge, push stick, VIC rip fence (for narrow stock) as well as two blade change wrenches with the MultiVolt table saw. There is a dedicated holder for each tool built into the saw’s housing. This feature makes accessing a tool extremely easy. In particular, the push stick is located on the right side of the saw housing. As a right-handed user, it is exceptionally intuitive to grab the push stick while feeding material into the saw.

Smart and Safe Power Switch Design

Turning a job site table saw on and off should require deliberate action. Doing this keeps everyone on-site safer and more importantly focused on the task of cutting. Lots of things can go wrong very quickly when using a table saw. Metabo HPT addresses some of these concerns with a well-designed activation switch. A spring-loaded cover protects the green-colored “on” button. Equally important is the large oversized red “off” paddle switch. This switch is easy to mash with a hand, a knee, a foot, or whatever appendage you can reach it with. Once the “off” switch is engaged, the saw’s electric brake system kicks in and stops the blade almost instantly.

Well Placed Adjustment Controls

A common theme with this saw is the well-placed, large, easy-to-use controls. Whether setting blade angle, adjusting blade height, or dialing in the fence, these tasks are easily accomplished with one hand on the MultiVolt table saw. That ease of adjustment is paramount on a job-site saw. Each adjustment scale is also clearly, and accurately, labeled for quick reference.

Rack and Pinion Fence Adjustment

The rack and pinion gear system for the fence adjustment is one of my favorite features. Many other manufacturers use a similar system, but the Metabo HPT is my favorite iteration of it. The large knurled dial is easy to grasp. The lock lever shores up the fence and secures it into position. Out of the box, the fence was true to the factory measuring scale. But the adjustment is relatively painless thanks to the aluminum track design.

Large Stable Work Platform

This is not a compact saw. At 28 3/4″ x 22″ the table of the MHPT saw is a large and steady work surface. This may seem obese to contractors working with smaller stock materials and trim, but for larger boards and sheet goods, the thiccness is appreciated. Currently, the saw ships as a bare tool only. I requested a folding stand from Metabo HPT with the saw and they were able to accommodate me. The stand came in their Hikoki brand packaging, but upon further investigation, I see that this stand is identical to the one provided with the Hitachi corded saw. If you are a current owner of the corded version, the MultiVolt saw should bolt directly to your current stand. The saw sits at a comfortable waist-level working height on the stand. For me, at 6′ 3″ and wearing boots, it seems about perfect.

36V Power Vs. MultiVolt Convenience

So what good is a cordless tool if the batteries don’t last right? Currently, the largest 36V MultiVolt battery available from MHPT is 4.0 Ah. With a freshly charged battery, I was able to make a total of five full-length cuts ripping a 2X4DF plus an additional 14 1/4″ on the sixth. I pushed this test very hard and forced the batteries into a thermal overload situation and had to stop. Because I have multiple MHPT MultiVolt batteries, I am extremely happy with this level of performance. If your daily needs require greater performance, then Metabo HPT has you covered with their plug-in AC Adapter. Some scoff at the idea of a plug-in adapter for cordless tools, but to me, it is an invaluable accessory as a user of the MultiVolt platform.

In terms of performance, the MultiVolt table saw is smooth, quiet, and robust, regardless of which power source you choose. Cutting a variety of materials was no challenge at all. When pushing sheet goods and large framing lumber, the saw refused to bog down. Conversely, when cutting smaller trim pieces and more delicate stock the saw could handle the refined work without issues.

Price and Availability

The MultiVolt table saw has been available from Metabo HPT and other vendors for several years now. In that time it has become increasingly popular. Currently, it is available for $599.00 as a bare tool. This is roughly $100.00 more than the corded model. The corded model also includes a folding stand. If you currently own the corded model saw and are invested in other cordless MultiVolt tools, then the cordless version is a worthwhile upgrade. Metabo HPT tools often have a somewhat higher initial purchase cost than their competitors, but the performance and adaptability of the MultiVolt system provide a great return on that investment. The MultiVolt table saw is no exception to this.

Overall Impressions of the MultiVolt Table Saw

In 2018, Tool Box Buzz conducted our Best Portable Jobsite Table Saw Head-2-Head. That test saw the Hitachi 10″ table saw walk away as our top overall winner. An impressive feat to say the least. The MultiVolt table saw from Metabo HPT is the modern cordless interpretation of that saw. MHPT has taken an excellent tool and made it exceptional with their 36V brushless motors and capable MultiVolt technology. I could easily throw a meme in here about “modern problems requiring modern solutions”, but the saw speaks for itself.

I love the fact that it is a large saw. It offers a stable working platform for any job site and would excel as a stowable tool for a home shop. However, I acknowledge that it may be too large for many trailers or work vehicles where space is at a premium. The initial cost of ownership is also slightly high on this tool, but I find it acceptable as a MultiVolt user. Overall I think the MHPT MultiVolt table saw is an exceptional all-around tool and my preferred cordless table saw option. Check it out for yourself and see if the MultiVolt world is for you.

2021 Cape Cod Service Event

At Tool Box Buzz, we are vocal proponents of giving back – especially to those who have paved the way for us. That’s why, for the second year in a row, Tool Box Buzz has participated in the Sandwich Cape Cod Council on Aging-led Yard Clean-up service event. After serving alongside volunteers from the Local Air National Guard Wing (Otis ANG Base), Sandwich Public School students, and volunteers from the local stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in both 2020 and 2021, we decided to step up our game for 2021. I mean, when we recognize a great opportunity to serve who can say no?

In 2021, Tool Box Buzz took on the challenge of being a lead coordinator for the event, which included getting by with a little help form out friends. We reached out to some of the exceptional folks at Ryobi, DEWALT, Milwaukee, and DR power equipment. And they were quick to catch the excitement and came through in a big way with some much-needed Outdoor Power Equipment donations to make this the most far-reaching service project yet.

The Event, Summarized!

In coordination with the local City of Sandwich Council on Aging, 68 volunteers came together on a cold late November Saturday to give back to local senior citizens. Together they cleaned a total of 22 yards and disposed of over 650 bags of leaves. Volunteers also spent a solid 8 hours chipping limbs and branches knocked down in a series of recent storms. The residents were recommended by the local council on aging based on priority of need. They were also quick to help put the immediate impact into words of gratitude.

And those served during our 2021 Cape Cod Service Event were quick and heartfelt in the thanks they expressed.

To the guys and gals who raked 49 bags of leaves off my property- thank you. I can’t begin to tell you how much I appreciated that! -Pat

Yet another resident expressed her thoughts, saying:

I am a Sandwich senior (at 80) swamped with the overwhelming task of coping with debris from the recent storm. Today…..to each volunteer…..I thank you. -Carolyn

The equipment we used with great success, by manufacturer, is:

Ryobi

DEWALT

Milwaukee

DR Power Equipment

We want to respond to those we served by saying THANK YOU for the opportunity to give back! And to those tool sponsors who helped make our 2021 Cape Cod Service Event a success- THANK YOU! In a world, with plenty of need, we encourage all to use their skills, talents, and energy to volunteer.

Let’s build our community one project, one job, one service project at a time.

Ryobi 18V One+ HP Brushless Automotive Tools

Ryobi has expanded their 18V One + Line-up with a few new 18V automotive-based tools and we recently tested four of them out. These tools are added to Ryobi’s highest-powered One+ HP line-up (except the sander/polished) complete with brushless motors and backward-compatible with standard 18V Ryobi batteries. Ryobi’s focused expansion of their automotive line-up is a significant and deliberate step towards trying to capture a new DIY market. They included the four following tools:

  • 1/2″ High-Torque Impact Wrench | PBLIW01B
  • 3/8″ Extended-Reach Ratchet | PBLRC25B
  • 1/4″ Right Angle Die Grinder | PSBDG01
  • 3″ Variable-Speed Detail Polisher/Sander | PBF102B

We had a 2010 Chevy Camaro repair project that we tested them out on and, as always, had a few key takeaways. We ordered the tools from most to least favorite and decided to focus this article on the key takeaways.

1/2″ High-Torque Impact Wrench | PBLIW01B

Specifications & Features:

  • Anvil size: 1/2″
  • Breakaway Torque: up to 1,170 ft-lbs.
  • Fastening Torque: 700 ft-lbs.
  • 4-Mode Speed Control
  • Die-Cast gear case
  • Integrated Tri-Beam LED light
  • Weight: 5.5 lbs (bare tool)
  • Motor: 18V Brushless

This is a great, heavy-duty, high-torque impact wrench. It had no problem breaking tight lug nuts free in no time. Even compared to previous versions of Ryobi 18V 1/2 inch impact wrench (P262) this is physically and mechanically superior. The ability to go hose-free is an essential shop upgrade. And it came with no noticeable loss in power for functionality. The tri-beam LED light is plenty bright when in the dark confines underneath a vehicle. Overall this was our favorite tool of the 4 due to the combination of high-powered performance, versatility, and seemingly rugged construction that will likely hold up well over time.

3/8″ Extended Reach Ratchet | PBLRC25B

Specifications & Features:

  • Anvil size: 3/8″
  • 4-position adjustable head
  • Integrated dual-LED light
  • Paddle-switch
  • Length: 12.3″
  • Weight: 2.9 lbs (bare tool)
  • Motor: 18V Brushless

I thought I would use this extended reach ratchet getting into the lower crevices of the engine and under the car chassis but I was wrong. I used it to assemble a table saw. Then I used it to drive in some hex head lag bolts. Then I used it to tighten a through bolt on a wheelbarrow axle. The key takeaway is that this is an extremely versatile and handy tool. The quick and easy 4-position head design is great. It makes the tool a breeze to adjust when compromised or reaching an awkward angle. And it delivers adequate power for every task I used it for. Lastly, the long reach from the over 12″ total length came in handier than I thought and kept the battery out of the way of interfering in tight spaces.

1/4″ Right Angle Die Grinder | PSBDG01

Specifications & Features:

  • Collet Size: 1/4 in.
  • Speed Modes: 10,000 / 15,000 / 20,000 / 22,000 rpm
  • Variable-Speed paddle switch
  • Integrated spindle lock
  • Single base-mounted LED light
  • Max accessory diameter: 2″
  • Motor: 18V Brushless

I knew this tool would be a hard sell as I’ve spent countless hours with a diamond-tipped cone grinder in the metal fabrication shop. We use these tips to bore out oxy/acetylene-burned holes in steel. But we’ve always used pneumatic grinders for this purpose. I found that the PSBDG01 had enough power to accomplish the task, but I still wasn’t a fan of the right-angle design. I prefer the smaller handheld version that typically attaches to a pneumatic hose. That being said, I can see how the right-angle design and smaller detail head are optimized for small-space jobs, especially for DIYers that don’t have the automotive grinders already. The PSBDG01 makes a lot of sense to fulfill their shop needs. I can also see it working well for non-automotive applications like scrubbing grout. Overall I thought it was an OK, not a great, cordless tool.

3″ Variable Speed Detail Polisher/Sander | PBF102B

Specifications & Features:

  • Runtime: approx. 30 min (4Ah battery)
  • Modes: 2-speed switch (0- 2,800 & 0– 7,800 RPM)
  • Left/Right adjustable auxiliary handle
  • Integrated spindle lock
  • Single base-mounted LED light
  • Weight: 1.88 lbs (bare tool)
  • Motor: 18V Brushed

The PBF102B polisher/sander was admittedly my least favorite tool of the new automotive tools I tested. I found the attachments to be too small to seem very useful. There are a few select applications where they may be helpful, such as polishing recessed light or chrome in very tight spaces. The power was adequate, not exceptional. And I found that I needed to operate mostly in the higher-power mode to achieve my overall desired power most of the time. The attachments also didn’t seem overly sturdy. I didn’t have the polishing wheel or sanding disc fail during use, but I felt like I needed to hold back a bit or I might break them. If someone wants to augment a larger polisher and has already bought into the Ryobi 18V line then this makes sense. Otherwise, the PBF102B would not be my first choice as a detail polisher and sander.

Final Thoughts | Ryobi 18V Brushless Automotive Tools

Overall, Ryobi has made a significant stride with many of their new automotive 18V One+ HP tools. I especially liked the wrench and ratchet as they seemed of overall better build quality with higher power and more versatility. The right angle grinder and detail polisher/sander seemed like more of an afterthought and are likely not enough on their own to get new DIY customers to commit to Ryobi 18V tools. But the pricing seems fair ad the standard 3 year warranty supports Ryobi’s expanding effort so with time, I have confidence all of their tools will be of the same high-end performance as my favorites from this bunch already seem to be.

Husky 22 in. Modular Container System (Models 230381, 236738, & 236667)

Earlier this year we were introduced to the Husky 22 in. modular container system.  This is a PRO-level, yet relatively inexpensive container system.  The suite is built around the flagship Husky 22 in. Connect Rolling Tool Box and is modular in design. You can also add on an additional Med. Toolbox, 10 or 22-piece small parts organizer, or 5-compartment tool caddy as required. We found the design to be sturdy and appealing in a minimalist way.  We are constantly moving tools to the job site or while on it so a dependable and durable container system is a must!  It is also a wise investment.  It’s easier and cheaper to replace a protective container than a critical tool.

Connect Rolling Toolbox (model 230381)

We were excited to check out the new Husky 22 in. modular container system and share our thoughts. First up is the Connect Rolling Toolbox, which has a few important key features.  Of note, this comes as a 3-piece starter set. We loved the size of the large rolling toolbox.  We also appreciated Husky’s design with the telescoping handle; they set the collapsed height just low enough so it allows the user to open a stacked medium toolbox without having to disconnect it from the rolling base. The wheels are large enough to easily handle stairs or gravel. The one minor drawback we noted was the lack of a tray option integrated into the rolling base design.

Specifications & Features | Connect Rolling Toolbox

  • Heavy-duty resin construction
  • Strong Interlocking design
  • 7 in. wheels
  • Telescoping aluminum handle
  • 3-pieces — Rolling Lg. toolbox, Med. toolbox, and 10-compartment organizer
  • 100 lb capacity
  • Dimensions — Inside; 18.5L x 11.5W x 13.25H (rolling base)

Connect Medium Toolbox (model 236738)

Next, we stacked the Connect Medium Toolbox onto the rolling base toolbox.  This is the foundational building block of the set.  The rolling base is not sold separately, so the medium toolbox is meant to be added as needed.  It is well sized to fit medium cordless or corded power tools like hammer drills, circular saws, or sanders. The overall size makes this a very versatile container. Some larger/longer tools may not fit well and must be stored in the mobile base (like a large worm-drive circular saw or a reciprocating saw).

Specifications & Features | Connect Medium Toolbox

  • Heavy-duty resin construction
  • Interior, removable, non-slide tray
  • Durable, metal latches
  • Top-mounted, foldaway handle
  • Built-in padlock eye
  • Dimensions — Inside: 18.5L x 9.75W x 7.5H / Outside: 22L x 12.28W x 10.83H

10-Compartment Small-Parts Organizer (model 236667)

Lastly, we added the 10-compartment small parts organizer to the mix to test it out.  This may have been our favorite part of the modular kit.  We always appreciate the time and hassle saved by organized small parts.  The clear lid made it very easy to grab the right organizer (since we had a few going). The lid also fits firmly enough over the tops of the small parts bins that there were no instances of spillage inside the container while moving.  We loved that!  We also appreciated the ability to remove the containers when required or re-arrange between multiple 10-piece organizers as required. The handle design was also solid during transport and when hand carrying.

Specifications & Features | 10-Compartment Small-Parts Organizer

  • Heavy-duty resin construction
  • Clear polycarbonate lid
  • 10 removable multiple size bins
  • Durable, metal latches
  • Side-mounted, foldaway handle
  • Dimensions — Inside: 18.5L x 9.75W x 3.5H / Outside: 22L x 11.89W x 4.49H

Final Thoughts

We were big fans of the Husky 22 in. modular container system.  It is a rugged and inexpensive container system.  The interlocking design worked well and stayed secure no matter where or when we decided to move our equipment. The locking mechanism is simply designed and rugged enough to last.  We appreciated the different size options.  Our only recommendation would be for Husky to consider adding a standalone, large-sized toolbox (with a lid), comparable in size to the rolling base, for upgrade purchase.  This would allow the kit to expand better to fit an even wider variety of job site required tools.

For the money, the Husky 22 in. modular container system is a great investment. There are more expensive set-ups on the market. For a no-frills design though, the Husky system performed well enough to make a basic part of our on-site kit.  This may not be the system for you if you buy tools from other manufacturers that come pre-packaged in a stackable container though.

  • 24V 5Ah batteries, 2 total (model 2949602AZ)

Our first impressions of this Greenworks LED light are that it is very compact and bright.  The head rotated smoothly and locked into the positions very securely with the locking knobs on either side of the light’s head.  The LED light offers multiple hanging choices; floor, wall-mounted, or rafter hanging which all worked well and kept the light safely in place.  The on/off switch is a simple rubberized button that sets both low and high modes.  The Greenworks 24V LED work light is not available with batteries. It is only sold as a bare tool.

Light it up:

Using the Greenworks 24V dual-power LED work light has been great. We put the light to use immediately the day it arrived on site.  We used it to illuminate a rough framed over garage space as we did an initial evaluation to plan out future finish work. Then we used it on a simple bathroom fan/light combo install. It was as straight-forward as you can get. And using the dual-power mode was helpful. Plug it in or pop in a battery and hit the button. Done!  We appreciated the ability to save battery power when an outlet was available to plug into.  And the cord-free light put out was impressive. Plus not having to step around or trip over cords is always highly desired on-site.

One additional nice feature of the Greenworks 24V LED work light is that when the battery gets to 5% charge, the light will blink 3 times at 25% max brightness (500 lumens).  We always appreciate smart features built into products like this.  It allows for more efficient use of work time with required battery swaps only. This enables max usage of battery power without any actual work stoppage.

Mounting Options

There are 3 mounting options for this LED work light.  First, you can use it on the floor.  This is the simplest and most readily available configuration.  The base is wide and sturdy and the light was much more apt to slide if bumped into rather than tumble which we appreciated. Second, the light can be wall-mounted.  There are pre-formed attachment holes in the base for this purpose.  This was easily the most secure mounting option and works great if you plan to keep the light in a single location for a while.  Lastly, the light can be hung from a rafter or joist. The hook is designed to perfectly fit a 2x board and still allowed easy light angle repositioning sing the locking knobs on the light head.

Battery Performance

The LED design causes a major reduction in heat which also means more efficient energy consumption.  A single 5Ah 24V battery gives you 7 hours of run time in low mode and approximately 5.5 hours in high mode. These numbers were accurate when we tested it out on-site. And the 24V charger will finish charging the batteries in approx. 2.5 hours. That means that even if you run the light on high, you can still charge a replacement battery in less than half the run time of the mounted battery.

Battery Features

Also, the 24V 5Ah battery has 2 nice design features.  First, it includes an on-board battery life gauge.  This is a pretty standard feature for batteries these days.  But it’s worth noting because on batteries it’s not standard on, it is a noticeable drawback.  Second, and much less standard, is the built-in USB charging port.  We loved the fact that you can charge a phone or tablet on-site without buying any battery attachments.

 Suggested Improvements:

Greenworks should consider pairing the 24V LED work light with a battery and battery charger in a single kit. It would also be helpful if Greenworks designed a better tripod mount into the base.  While there is an attachment point, it was not very robust and required you to start your own threading. These are minor recommendations as overall the light was very functional and performed well on site.

Greenworks LED Light | Overall Impression:

Our overall impression of the Greenworks 24v LED work light is very positive.  Having the ability to run off a 24V battery or 120V outlet is awesome versatility and quickly becoming the LED work light standard for good reason. The battery runtime and design are excellent.  The light was sufficiently bright for all the tasks it was used for.  We loved the multiple hanging options and dual-mode operations.  If you are looking for a compact and relatively inexpensive LED option, especially if you already own some Greenworks 24V tools, then this LED work light is an excellent option.

Makita Tools 4-Year Look-Back Tool Review

I run mostly Makita and Milwaukee platform tools. Many of the tools in this trailer I have done a tool review on, and while tools usually perform well in the beginning the real testament to a good tool is productivity and longevity.

So here we are 1 to 4 years later.

  • Did we get it right the first time?
  • How are these tools holding up to remodeling work?
  • Would recommend this tool now?
  • Would re change anything?

Makita 18V Drywall Cut-Out Saw

As a remodeler I often find myself making precision cuts into drywall to access framing while trying to preserve parts of the wall or ceiling. The Makita 18V Cordless Drywall Cut‑Out Saw is the “better way” to cut drywall dust free.

I swear this thing is 10X faster than using a multi-tool and it’s super easy to operate both vertically on a wall and more importantly horizontally along a ceiling. The cutter has a short ¼” stroke length with an adjustable blade depth up to 1-3/16.″ It is designed to cut the wall board but NOT penetrate deep enough to damage objects behind the board.

I often set the depth so I can cut up the middle of a wall stud – its works grete and when I hit a screw I lift the tool base slightly and go past it.

The Makita 18V Cordless Cut‑Out Saw has a clear dust box that will hold a small amount of dust before needing emptying. This is useful for fast quick cuts where you don’t want to set up or have a vacuum handy. A swivel dust port is attached to the clear dust box. When connected to a vacuum this saw produces almost nil for dust.

This cutter is fantastic. It plunge-cuts fast and easy. This tool provides clean cuts so much faster and easier than a utility blade or other precise method. The Cut‑Out Saw is innovative and allows for a common frustrating cutting application on the job site to be done faster, cleaner and easier.

So did we get it right – mostly yes

Here’s what we found:

  1. The dust cover is easily lost and we reported to taping it to the tool – but eventually it got lost.
  2. The clear plastic dust shroud comes loose at times.
  3. The blades are phenomenal for drywall but old-school hybrid gypsum/plaster from the 1950s destroys the blade.

That’s my biggest complaint. If I’m only cutting drywall, and don’t hit a lot of screws, the blade will last a month. If I use it on hybrid plaster – it’s a one and done deal. That stinks. So if dust doesn’t matter then I resort to a recip saw with a carbide blade.

Note: The hybrid plaster is a common in my area and represents a transitional stage between traditional wood lath and plaster to modern drywall techniques.  We see it a lot.

We’d like to see a carbide blade for this tool. Overall still a great tool and one that makes us more professional – and in case you were wondering… I highly recommend it!

Makita 36 Volt 6-1/2” Track Saw

I’ve always said you never get a second chance to make a first impression. The very first time I used this saw was to cut ½” Birch plywood and I said to myself, WOW this this is smooth and powerful!”

Four years ago we tested this saw and commented that it had a super smooth plunge and powerful motor allowing it to cut, as smooth as the saw slides on its track. We were extremely impressed with the ease of use, and solid design, and great price.

We told you back then that this saw is purchase you can be sure of, it is a quality track saw with plenty of power to get the job done. We also said that there was not  a lot to dislike about this saw.  We mentioned that we’d like to see this saw updated with a riving knife.

Currently Makita offers no real kick back mitigation, besides the track guidance. The depth of cut scale is in metric, Imperial measurements would be a welcomed addition. Lastly, I was also bummed out that my MAKITA VC4710 HEPA vacuum hose did not fit the track saws dust port. The vac hose inside diameter is 1-1/2″ and the tracks dust port outside diameter is 1-3/4″. I had to us a Dewalt adapter to get it to work.

So, did we get it right the first time?   Hell yea we did!  This saw has held up well in remodeling work?  Nothing’s changed, we’d still recommend purchasing this saw today. In fact have you seen out cordless Track Saw Head-2-Head?  If you haven’t go check it out. This saw performed admirably.

Makita 18V Compact Cordless Router

If you’ve been a carpenter for at least 20 years you know that MAKITA’s lineage is with the carpenter and woodworker. To prove this just think back to your first miter saw, table saw or slide pack drill and I’d bet it was a MAKITA for most of you.

This router is geared toward the Pro carpenter. These days, so many people are using compact routers do the lion share of their routing applications. The exciting thing about this new cordless router, besides being cordless, is that is a mirror image to the corded 1-1/4 HP Compact Router.

That means that all the expensive accessories, like plunge bases, tilt bases, guides and dust shrouds, that guys already own, will FIT the cordless router. Not only is it a similar looking router but it will provide you with similar performance to its corded version.

That’s not only smart, but a nice thing to do. Clearly Makita is thinking about its tool users, and making the transition to go cordless more cost-effective and cheaper. I want to stress that this accessory compatibility is an awesome feature and one that will save you money and, as MAKITA hopes, will help the transferring to cordless less painful.

Router Base Adjustment

Next to being cordless, the router base adjustment gets me excited. Like most router manufacturers MAKITA uses a quick release cam lever to adjust or remove the router base. But for micro adjustments, I love how MAKITA uses a rack-and-pinion depth adjustment system, which lets you dial precise settings. This adjustment is smooth, fast and super easy to use. Frankly it blows away most of the competitor’s adjustment.

When routing I find the router was the perfect weight and was well balanced. It was not too light where the router “walks, or chatters” along the surface. It cut well, and had plenty of power to handle small to medium routing applications. This router is easy to operate, has great visibility, and power.

So – did we get it right?  Yep There is nothing negative too say about this router, it does exactly what it says it will do, and does it well.

Makita XRH08Z 18V X2 Rotary Hammer

The Makita XRH08Z 18V X2 Rotary Hammer has a permanent place in our tool trailer. Why?

This 1-1/8” AVT Rotary Hammer is a cordless concrete solution that’s loaded with advanced engineering and efficiency – but mostly we LOVE that its cordless, and its size and weight.  Two nice features are the electric brake that allows the tool to reposition faster and the variable speed dial and trigger for better control and starting.

It’s a keeper.
